Office buildings today are dumb. They use more than 1,300,000,000,000 kWh annually and are extremely inefficient, wasting 50-70% of that energy while costing their owners and tenants more than $200,000,000,000. Worse, they consume energy during peak times when energy is most in demand, forcing utilities to supply more than 480,000,000 W of additional power. This waste accounts for more than 610,000,000 tons of annual greenhouse gas emissions.

Unfortunately traditional methods of retrofitting office buildings are too expensive/complex for all but the top 1% of offices to adopt. The vast majority of office building owners can’t afford the multi-million dollar capital investments or long (6-10+ years) payback periods of retrofits and tenants are literally prohibited in their leases from making any energy efficiency improvements to their buildings. Additionally, there is no ability for office occupants to optimize energy efficiency across high and low energy usage periods.

The market desperately needs easily adoptable energy management solutions that meet the needs of office owners and tenants alike.
